Drill
So we were sitting around at our morning staff huddle the other day and our Operations Officer announced that our compound would be conducting an emergency drill later in the day. During a two hour timespan the compound would be locked down in order for the simulated emergency to take place. We were not to be involved in the drill, but during that time period we were told that we couldn't leave the office. Many of us had missions out in Baghdad planned for the day around that time, which caused us to try to calculate when we could leave before, or return after, the two hour drill so we could make our convoy pick-up in front of our compound. The problem was quite vexing to most of us as we were trying to figure out how we were going to manage our schedules. Then our Economic Development Officer said, "Wait a minute. They want to prevent us from going on our actual real-life missions in a warzone... so we can have a drill? Does anyone see the irony in that?" Within a few minutes Ops reported back that we wouldn't have a problem getting out of the compound to go on our missions.
