Vote early

Just want to drop in. Voting has kicked off. People waiting outside sites. Looks like most of the sites got their materials. Some minor attacks, but the reports we're getting are that things are going well.

Lots of convoy movement yesterday. There are about 28,000 polling workers in Baghdad. Many of them had to be trucked out to villages outside Baghdad. The Iraqi army and police did escort missions and security. Hundreds of trucks moved from several major warehouses out to district offices and then down to individual sites. Most sites are local schools.

A convoy got hit yesterday mid-afternoon. First report was that everybody had quit and nobody would go to their sites in that district. Twenty minutes later, the Iraqi army was chasing a gang and the workers were back loading up the trucks for another run.

Many poll workers slept at the schools last night. Iraqi police and army units had assignments to cover the over 1400 polling sites with 24/7 security. We weren't sure if they'd come through. Looks like they are.
