about T H E B I S B E E P R O J E C T:

We started this project to give a name to the different activities we've been doing over the past couple of years. As officers in the US Army, we've had experiences putting us at the forefront of American foreign policy. Our service is a big part of who we are. It forced us to become more aware of the responsibilities of leadership required from those who went before us, those leading now, and those who will take over in the future. It brought us to foreign nations, broadening our understanding of the world. It also helped us realize and respect the connections we had to the people and places that made us who we are.

We want to encourage smart and dedicated young people to consider giving service in the military or in government a shot. Many people believe that our current generation of Americans isn't up to our current generation of problems. We don't think so. Our Scholarships for Service program identifies leaders for the next Pennsylvania and gives them some support and encouragement.

Pennsylvania is a great state with a really great heritage. For exquisite geography and some truly pivotal history, you really can't beat it. What a great place to be from – and an even better place to be. Our Preserving Pennsylvania gifts support efforts of historical preservation and natural conservation in the Keystone State.

Our service broadened our understanding of the world and the real influence our nation has across the globe. Our collection of travel stories and maps and other writings is the record of our pursuit to see and experience as much of the world as possible, and share these experiences with others. Dan's writings while serving in Baghdad, first with the Army and then with the State Department, are part of our effort to communicate how personal experiences can inform our understanding of what our democracy is willing and able to achieve on the world stage.

This is some of the stuff we're doing. This is our project.
